Telangana becomes first Indian state to open zone at Osaka Expo 2025

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday led the official Telangana Rising delegation to launch the state's presence at the Osaka Expo 2025, becoming the first Indian Chief Minister to visit Japan for a World Expo.

Accompanied by Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, Revanth Reddy inaugurated the Telangana Zone inside the Bharat Pavilion, marking a milestone for the state as the first from India to participate in the global event. The Telangana delegation aims to highlight the state’s strengths in business, arts, culture, and tourism to the international audience attending the six-month-long Expo.

Earlier in the day, the delegation received a ceremonial welcome from the Mayor of Kitakyushu, Kazuhisa Takeuchi. Kitakyushu, once Japan’s most polluted city, is now internationally recognized for its work in sustainability and environmental transformation. The city has become a symbol of successful ecological recovery and innovation.

The Expo, officially sanctioned by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), opened on April 13 and will run until October 13, 2025. Held once every five years, this is the second time Osaka is hosting the event, the first being in 1970. Organizers expect approximately 28 million visitors.

With the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” Expo 2025 features eight distinct zones focused on innovation, sustainability, and practical solutions for global challenges. Telangana’s participation places it among a select group of early movers from India showcasing their vision for the future on a global stage.
