Hyderabad: The Telangana government has extended the ₹1 lakh marriage incentive scheme to couples where both partners are persons with disabilities. The cash award will be given in the name of the wife. The order was issued through G.O. Ms. No. 7 by the Department for Women, Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens.

The move follows a request from the Director of the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens and Transgender Persons to expand the scope of the existing scheme. Previously, the incentive was available only for marriages between a person with a disability and a non-disabled partner.

In an earlier order, G.O. Ms. No. 2 dated March 23, 2018, the government had raised the incentive amount from ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh. With the latest order, the same benefit will now be provided for marriages between two differently-abled persons. The department has been directed to take necessary action and implement the order with immediate effect.
