Telangana lawyers to boycott courts in protest after attack on advocate in Gachibowli
Hyderabad: Following an attack on Advocate Tanneru Srikanth, an Executive Committee member of the Kukatpally Bar Association, the Federation of Bar Associations for the state of Telangana called for a boycott on Tuesday.
The protest is a direct response to the violent assault on Advocate Srikanth, who was severely beaten while performing his professional duties. The call for the boycott was issued by the Federation of Bar Associations for the State of Telangana, stating that the decision was ‘unanimous.’ In a statement, it said, “It has unanimously decided to boycott all the courts across the state on 26, August, 2025 by condemning the above said untoward and barbaric act”. Further requested all the advocates to extend their support and co-operation.
Going further into the case details, the attack occurred when Advocate Srikanth, along with court bailiff , went to execute a court-issued warrant in a civil case on Monday. According to accounts from the legal community, he was ambushed and brutally attacked with sticks. The assault left Srikanth with multiple fractures, and he is currently receiving medical treatment. An FIR in the case has been registered at the Gachibowli Police Station under the relevant section of BNS.
Legal community outraged
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from advocates across the state, who see it as an attack not just on an individual, but on the very foundation of the justice system.
The Federation of Bar Associations, in its communication to all Bar Presidents and General Secretaries, termed the incident an "untoward and barbaric act".
Condemning the attack, Advocate Neelam Bhargava Ram, in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, said, “Condemn the brutal attack on brother Advocate, Executive Committee member of Kukatpally BAR Association. Advocate Srikanth, along with court staff, went to execute a warrant issued by the court in a civil case, and the opposite party attacked him (sic)."
Echoing the sentiment, Seshagiri BV, a well-known advocate with a significant social media presence as ‘Vakil Saab’, highlighted the systemic issues at play. On his X (formerly Twitter) handle, he said, “Brutal attack on Advocate Tanneru Srikanth is not just against an Advocate — it strikes at the dignity of the entire legal profession. Telangana Advocates remain soft targets while the Advocates Protection Act is still a dream. Govt silence is intolerable (sic)." and tagged Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Anumula.
He further added that “Bringing up ‘blackmail by some advocate’ to justify a violent assault on an Advocate accompanying a Court Bailiff executing a Court order is dangerous. If Court Orders can be resisted with violence, tomorrow no citizen’s rights will be safe. This is anarchy & lawlessness(sic)”.
