On May 28, 2025, a serious complaint was lodged by Thota Suresh, a former national Kabaddi player and ex-Joint Secretary of the Telangana State Kabaddi Association, highlighting large-scale financial irregularities within the association. Suresh, aged 38 and a resident of Mahabubabad district, alleged that top office-bearers had misappropriated substantial funds meant for the development of Kabaddi in the state.
According to the complaint received at Abid Road Police Station, Suresh named K. Jagadish Yadav, the long-serving State Secretary, and K.B. Sriramulu, the Treasurer, accusing them of siphoning off funds allocated for inter-district tournaments and misusing amounts provided by the Sports Authority of Telangana. Notably, he alleged that despite the association operating a single official bank account, the accused had secretly opened a second unauthorized account at Bank of Maharashtra’s Khairatabad branch. Through this account, approximately ₹60 lakh was withdrawn without informing the association’s members.
Furthermore, Suresh alleged the misappropriation of ₹1.2 crore granted for the 2021 Junior National Kabaddi Tournament in Suryapet, of which ₹50 lakh was reportedly used for personal purposes. An additional ₹20 lakh sponsorship amount from Chintala Sports, intended for the Telangana Premier Kabaddi League, was also allegedly diverted for private use.
Suresh claims he was ousted from the Mahabubabad district unit after raising concerns and was even threatened by the accused. With the association allegedly becoming inactive and internal complaints yielding no action, he finally approached the police.
Based on the complaint, SI V. Suman registered a case under sections 314(2), 314(4) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and transferred the investigation to SI N. Gourender Goud for further inquiry.
