Scattered showers in Telangana today; Heavy rains likely from July 17
Hyderabad: Scattered rainfall is expected across Telangana today, July 15, 2025, though it is not likely to be intense. Hot and humid weather will continue to prevail, including in Hyderabad. Balaji, known as the Telangana Weatherman (@balaji25_t) on X (formerly Twitter), issued an update earlier today, stating that while today’s rains would be limited and patchy, stronger weather activity is on the horizon. According to his forecast, thunderstorms and heavier rains are expected to gradually pick up from tomorrow, with powerful storms likely to affect large parts of the state from July 17.
He noted that many are skeptical about the arrival of rains this week, but remains confident that the state will witness significant rainfall starting July 16 or 17. As of now, Telangana is facing a 26% rainfall deficit, while Hyderabad is at a sharper deficit of 55%. Balaji expressed optimism that these shortfalls will be addressed by the end of the month, and that the state could return to a near-normal rainfall status. Responding to criticism and doubts, he added that the real picture would become clear by July 28.
In his medium-range forecast, Balaji mentioned that the period from July 14 to 16 would remain relatively dry due to a weak monsoon and higher temperatures. However, conditions are expected to change beginning July 17, with intense thunderstorms predicted across various parts of southern, eastern, and central Telangana. Hyderabad is also likely to receive widespread heavy rainfall during this phase. From July 23 to 28, further rainfall is expected across northern, eastern, and central districts due to back-to-back low-pressure systems. During this period, Hyderabad is expected to receive moderate to heavy showers.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, issued its own weather alert for the state today. It forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places across Telangana. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely in several districts including Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagitial, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal–Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal. Surface winds with speeds of 30 to 40 km/h are also likely in isolated places across all districts.
