Telangana police scuttle protest of wives of home guards, several detained
Hyderabad: Wives of Home guards working with the Telangana police department were detained by the police for staging a sit-in at Dharna Chowk in the city on Saturday. The spouses of home guards had earlier given a call for ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ and decided to hold a peace protest in the first week of November.
Notably, following the imposition of month-long prohibitory orders (Section 144), peaceful dharnas and protests are only allowed at Indira Park and nowhere else in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
Nearly 16,000 home guards are assisting the Telangana police in the State. They have been demanding regularization of their services and equal benefits. Recently, the home guards JAC submitted their list of demands to the chief minister Revanth Reddy and TPCC chief, B Mahesh Kumar Goud.
In their representation, Sakinala Narayana, chairman of home guards, JAC, raised the issue of eligible benefits for the home guard personnel. He urged the Congress government to implement the previous judgements on the welfare of home guards and regularize their services.
