The high court’s directive comes after a law student from Siddipet district, Kadathala Arvind Reddy, filed a writ petition in the high court. The petitioner claimed that despite filing a complaint with the Siddipet police and the Director General of Police (DGP), no action was taken against Mallanna.

Hearing the petition, Justice K Sarath directed the home department to obtain police contention in a writ petition seeking a directive for registering an FIR against Teenmaar Mallanna for his alleged offensive remarks against the Reddy community. The court posted the matter for next hearing on February 21, 2025.

While attending an event organised by the BC Sangam as a chief guest, Mallanna commented on the caste census survey saying the survey data was manipulated to protect the interests of economically weaker sections (EWS) while reducing the reservation of the backward classes. Claiming that Congress had insulted the community, he asked the people to pour urine on the report and burn it. He had also reportedly made derogatory remarks against the Reddy community.

“Reddy community people, OCs and Velama community people are not from Telangana. Reddy community people do not possess any commonsense,” Mallanna had said in the public meeting on February 2, 2025.

Following multiple complainants from the party's rank and file, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s (TPCC) disciplinary action committee (DAC) issued a show cause notice to MLC Teenmaar Mallanna.

Telangana Reddy Joint Action Council had condemned Mallanna’s remarks and demanded the MLA to resign from his post. The female members of the community had lodged a complaint against the MLC in the Uppal police station and demanded him to tender an unconditional apology to the Reddy community.
