Telangana Govt ends services of 177 retired officers, including Hyderabad Metro MD N.V.S. Reddy
Hyderabad: The Government of Telangana has issued a directive to terminate the services of retired officers and staff who were reappointed in various departments, including the Secretariat, Heads of Departments (HODs), and government agencies at the state level. Among those affected is N.V.S. Reddy, the Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), who is one of the 177 retired personnel removed from service.
N.V.S. Reddy, who retired on June 30, 2016, was reappointed as MD of HMRL on July 1, 2017. He was expected to serve until June 30, 2025, but was terminated under the recent directive from the Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MAUD) department.
Other officials affected by the order include B.L.N. Reddy, the Chief Engineer of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), who was retired on April 30, 2018, and reappointed on April 30, 2024, as Chief Engineer of HMDA and Managing Director of HGCL. Additionally, M. Satyanarayana, Executive Director of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), S. Sathaiah, Joint Collector of Telangana RERA, and several senior officers from HMDA and GHMC have also been terminated.
The MAUD memo instructs all Special Chief Secretaries and Principal Secretaries of Secretariat departments to terminate the services of retired employees, regardless of their appointment method, by March 31. This includes those working on a contract or outsourcing basis in state-level offices, corporations, and boards.
Departments that still require the services of these retired officers must obtain fresh orders from the competent authority, along with justification for their continued employment. Among those terminated, 63 retired officers were working in HMDA and 45 in GHMC.
N.V.S. Reddy had been managing HMRL since its formation in 2007 and had previously served as the Additional Commissioner for the Traffic and Transportation Wing of GHMC. Following his retirement, he continued his role on an extension basis.
