Telangana Government releases Rs 375 crore for Musi development project

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has released Rs 375 crore for the ambitious Musi Riverfront Development Project, marking a significant step forward in the state's urban development agenda on Saturday.

On August 23, 2025, Secretary Ilambarithi K. issued a release order. This order, from the Government, allocates funds to the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) for the July to September quarter.The state government has earmarked a total of Rs 1,500 crore for the Musi Riverfront Development project in the Budget Estimates 2025-26. With this second quarter release of Rs 375 crore, the government has now approved Rs 750 crore. This leaves a balance of Rs 750 crore from the Rs 1,500 crore earmarked for the project.

Budget and Accountability

The Managing Director of MRDCL had requested the fund release in July 2025, highlighting that the second quarter activities commenced from July 1, 2025, under the planned scheme for Musi Riverfront Development.The Finance Department issued the Budget Release Order on August 19, 2025, providing the necessary financial clearance.The funds will be transferred to MRDCL, with the Assistant Secretary to Government (Drawing and Disbursing Officer) in the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department responsible for the fund transfer process.

The government order mandates strict financial oversight mechanisms. The Managing Director of MRDCL must submit detailed expenditure particulars and Utilization Certificates to both the Accountant General, Telangana, and the state government. The Deputy Director at the District Treasury Office (DTO), Hyderabad (Urban), will handle the adjustment of funds to the MRDCL account, ensuring proper financial flow and accountability.

The Musi Riverfront Development project represents one of Telangana's flagship urban development initiatives, aimed at transforming the Musi river corridor in Hyderabad.
