Hyderabad: The Telangana Government has sanctioned ₹33 crore to support flood preparedness measures across all districts, allocating ₹1 crore to each district for immediate relief efforts and procurement of essential equipment.

The decision follows a proposal from the District Collector of Nirmal, who sought early release of funds to procure critical materials such as air boats, life jackets, sirens, loudspeakers, ropes, gas cutters, bush cutters, and ladders to ensure swift evacuation and minimize potential losses during heavy rains.

Citing practices followed in states like Kerala, the Revenue (Disaster Management) Department highlighted the need for advance procurement to prevent delays in emergency response. The move is aimed at equipping districts with necessary tools ahead of time to mitigate damage and safeguard lives during the monsoon season.

The Finance Department issued the Budget Release Order on July 26, 2025, approving ₹33 crore under the SDRF norms. The funds will be drawn under the head of account. The government clarified that the amount is strictly for material and equipment procurement, not for building repairs.

Districts have been instructed to coordinate with the Police Department to assess urgent material needs. Aapda Mitra volunteers, along with personnel from the Fire, Revenue, and Police Departments, are expected to support the deployment and use of the equipment.

All procured materials are to be stored with the District Fire Offices post-monsoon for future use. District Collectors have been authorized to draw funds through A.C. Bills and must remit any unspent amounts back to the treasury. Utilization certificates must be submitted to the State Audit Authorities and the Revenue Department promptly. The order was issued with the concurrence of the Finance (EBS-VII) Department.
