HYDERABAD: Newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) Bathula Shivadhar Reddy on Saturday said that the police force will not tolerate corruption. He added that the department will conduct inquiries into all allegations, and if they find them true, they will take strict action.

DGP Shivadhar Reddy said the response to complaints has become faster in recent years, and this approach will continue. “Basic policing will remain a priority. At the same time, we are launching special initiatives to tackle narcotics and cybercrime, which are threatening society,” he said. He warned that those spreading misinformation on social media will face strict action within the framework of law.

Stronger action on drugs, cybercrime

Shivadhar Reddy said the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has set a national benchmark in registering cyber complaints as FIRs, while the Eagle task force has busted major drug rackets, driving several syndicates out of the state. “These two crimes are becoming more serious every day. We will strengthen these agencies further, especially to root out drug supply networks,” he said.

Policing experience and Maoist decline

The DGP said his long experience — from serving as ASP, SP and DIG in districts to working in intelligence and DG-level posts — gives him a close understanding of Telangana’s political and social conditions.

He said Telangana police has earned national recognition for crime control and use of technology. For example, its Verifast app for speedy passport verification and quick completion of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) inquiries recently won an award from the Union ministry of external affairs.

On Maoist activity, Shivadhar Reddy said it has nearly ended in the state. “At present, only a couple of districts like Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mulugu show some influence. In the past two years, about 30 senior Maoist leaders surrendered, and only about 70 Telangana cadres remain underground in Dandakaranya. We are working to bring them to surrender too,” he said.
