Telangana logs 4,296 dengue cases from April to August: NCVBDC data
HYDERABAD: Telangana recorded 4,296 dengue cases between April and August 2025, according to the latest data released by the National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC), Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. No dengue-related deaths have been reported so far this year.
Spike during monsoon season
The new figures, updated on the NCVBDC website up to August 2025, show a sharp rise from 267 cases reported till March. The increase coincides with the ongoing monsoon season, typically between June and September, when vector- and water-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya, typhoid, hepatitis, leptospirosis, and respiratory infections tend to rise due to mosquito breeding in stagnant water and contamination of food and water sources.
The data update comes even as the Telangana Health Department has not released any official figures on seasonal diseases this year, maintaining silence over dengue and related infections.
Continuing high burden
During the same period last year (up to August 21, 2024), Telangana had reported 4,648 dengue cases, with the annual total reaching 10,077 by December. In 2023, the state recorded 8,016 cases, indicating a sustained high disease burden.
Chikungunya infections have also shown an upward trend. According to NCVBDC data, 252 confirmed cases of chikungunya were detected from 7,176 samples tested across the state till August 2025.
