Telangana DCA cracks down on expired drugs & mislabelled products
Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana has been actively safeguarding public health through a series of raids conducted between October 15 and 22, 2024. These operations targeted the illegal sale of expired drugs and the circulation of mislabelled products.
Expired Drugs Seized at Medical Store:
Acting on credible information, DCA officials raided Bhargavi Medical Stores in Namalagundu, Warasiguda, Secunderabad, on October 18th. During the inspection, a significant quantity of expired medicines were discovered to be stocked alongside saleable drugs. The authorities seized 54 varieties of expired drugs, valued at Rs. 60,000.
Mislabelled Drugs Seized:
On October 23rd, DCA officials identified a product called "RESOLAC-R Sachets" being circulated in the market under the guise of a food product/nutraceutical. However, the product contained ingredients classified as drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. This product was falsely manufactured under a food license and did not adhere to the necessary quality standards.
Public Alert:
VB Kamalasan Reddy, Director General of the Drugs Control Administration, urged the public to report any suspected illegal activities related to drugs, including manufacturing, sale, or storage, by calling the DCA Telangana Toll-Free Number: 1800-599-6969 (operational from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all working days).
