Congress leaders move to pacify Anjan Kumar Yadav over Jubilee Hills ticket row
HYDERABAD: Telangana Congress leaders have stepped in to pacify former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, who has expressed discontent after being denied the party ticket for the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election. The Congress high command has chosen Naveen Yadav as its candidate, prompting the senior leader to voice his displeasure and hint at rebellion.
Party leaders move to defuse crisis
Concerned that Anjan Kumar Yadav’s revolt could hurt the party’s prospects in Jubilee Hills, senior Congress leaders have initiated talks to placate him. The former MP, who had actively conducted programmes in the constituency, had been confident of securing the ticket, citing his four decades of service and seniority in the party.
However, the announcement of Naveen Yadav’s candidature left him disappointed. Party insiders from Gandhi Bhavan said that Anjan Kumar felt “deeply upset” after they overlooked him.
Possible independent contest feared
Unconfirmed reports suggested that Anjan Kumar Yadav was preparing to file his nomination independently against the party’s directive. He told his supporters that he would announce his next move after consulting them, reportedly remarking that this was “the reward for serving the party for 40 years.”
Senior leaders hold talks
In response, a delegation led by AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, AICC in-charge Viswanathan, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, and Labour Minister Vivek Venkatswamy visited Anjan Kumar Yadav’s residence to hold discussions. The outcome of the meeting has not yet been disclosed.
Apart from Anjan Kumar Yadav, Kanjerla Vijayalaxmi, daughter-in-law of former minister KLN Yadav, was also a key contender for the Congress ticket.
