Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on 24th and sought the Centre’s cooperation for several major infrastructure and development projects in the state. During the meeting, the Chief Minister presented a detailed proposal covering strategic areas such as transportation, defence, and semiconductor manufacturing.
One of the top priorities raised was the long-pending Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2 project. Reddy informed the Prime Minister that the Telangana government had submitted the required documents to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on November 4, 2024. While the Centre had asked for certain clarifications, the state has already provided responses. The Chief Minister requested the Union Cabinet’s final approval to move the project forward without further delay.
He also pushed for early approval and parallel construction of the Southern section of the Regional Ring Road (RRR), alongside the Northern section. He cautioned that delays could increase project costs and reduce the road network’s effectiveness. Telangana, he noted, is prepared to share 50% of the land acquisition cost for the Southern RRR segment.
Reddy also emphasized the significance of the proposed Regional Ring Railway and a greenfield highway linking Bandar Port with a dry port near Hyderabad. He highlighted how these transport corridors would improve logistics, support industrial growth, and reduce freight costs in the region.
In the high-tech sector, the Chief Minister reiterated Telangana’s commitment to the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). He sought strong support from the Centre to develop the state into a major hub for advanced electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.
Defence sector development in Hyderabad was another key area of discussion. Reddy urged the Prime Minister to expedite clearances for Defence Public Sector Units (PSUs) and private joint ventures. He proposed a dedicated approval mechanism for foreign defence collaborations and requested that Hyderabad be chosen to host the next DefExpo. He also stressed the need for targeted incentives for defence MSMEs due to their high setup costs and long gestation periods.
Overall, the meeting focused on accelerating Telangana’s growth through strategic national collaborations and infrastructure development.
