Assembly session likely to be stormy as knives out for Congress
Hyderabad: Following the conclusion of the Congress government’s Praja Palana–Praja Vijayotsavalu, the winter session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly began today. The winter session assumes significance as the ruling party is expected to go for panchayat elections before the budget session in 2025.
The Opposition parties BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) and BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) are gearing up to corner the government on its failed promises, crop loan waiver scheme, Lagcherla violence, HYDRAA, the Musi project among other key issues.
During a meeting of the Legislative Party with party MLAs and MLCs, the BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) said everyday the party’s MLAs and MLCs will question the government in the Assembly on public issues and expose its failures. He said the party will hold Congress accountable for its six guarantees promised during the elections.
The Congress government will likely face some tough questions from the BRS over the installation of the new Telangana Talli statue at the Secretariat.
The winter session will see the tabling of crucial bills on the Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill to remove the two-child norm for candidates in local body elections, the Right of Records (RoR) and HYRDAA. The government is also likely to introduce amendments to a few laws, such as changes to the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Act so as to enable the merger of villages into municipalities and granting special powers to HYDRAA. Later today, the Business Advisory Committee will meet to decide the number of days the House would function during the session.
