Telangana, Andhra plan 297-km greenfield highway to Bandar port

HYDERABAD: The Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments have jointly prepared a preliminary alignment for a 12-lane greenfield expressway connecting Bharat Future City near Mucherla to Bandar port near Machilipatnam. Officials said the route details have been submitted to the Union government for approval and sanction.

According to official sources, the proposed alignment will cover two states, five districts and around 100 villages. Of these, about 40 villages fall within the limits of the combined Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda districts in Telangana, while the remaining 60 are spread across Krishna, Guntur (Amaravati capital region) and Palnadu districts in Andhra Pradesh.

Alignment passes through Telangana, Andhra regions

The alignment is expected to begin near Thippareddypally, close to Bharat Future City between the Outer Ring Road and Regional Ring Road in Telangana, and continue via Lankelapally near Amaravati before linking to Bandar port. Once the Telangana border ends near Adavi Devulapalli and Gottemukkala, the highway will enter Andhra Pradesh territory.

Officials estimate the total length of the expressway at 297 km. The approval of the final detailed project report (DPR) may cause minor changes in the alignment.

Consultancy to prepare DPR by year-end

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to appoint a consultancy firm for preparing the DPR. If the consultancy finalizes by the third week of October, officials expect to have the complete alignment ready by December.

Preliminary studies have also identified agricultural, non-agricultural and forest lands along the proposed route, including tanks and ponds. Detailed land-use data will be finalised once the DPR is approved.
