Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), City Range-I Unit, caught a Deputy State Tax Officer posted in Madhapur while accepting a bribe of ₹8,000 from a complainant on July 8, 2025. The bribe was allegedly demanded for processing and approving GST registration for the complainant’s company.

The accused officer, M. Sudha, was caught red-handed during the trap and the bribe amount was recovered from her at her instance. She has been arrested and is being sent to judicial remand. According to ACB officials, she performed her official duties improperly and dishonestly. The case is currently under investigation.

The ACB has urged the public to report any demand for bribes by government officials. Complaints can be made by calling the ACB’s toll-free number 1064. The Bureau is also reachable via WhatsApp at 9440446106, on Facebook at “Telangana ACB,” and on X (formerly Twitter) @TelanganaACB. The identity of complainants will be kept confidential.

In June 2025, the ACB registered 31 cases and enquiries, including 15 trap cases, two disproportionate assets (DA) cases, three criminal misconduct cases, four regular enquiries, and seven surprise checks. A total of 25 public servants, including two private or outsourcing employees, were arrested and sent to judicial custody. The Bureau seized ₹3.43 lakh in trap cases involving officials from various departments.

In the DA cases registered during the month, assets worth ₹13.5 lakh and ₹5.22 crore were unearthed. Surprise checks conducted at RTA check posts and Sub-Registrar offices led to the seizure of ₹2.72 lakh in unaccounted cash.

From January to June 2025, the ACB registered 126 cases, which include 80 trap cases, eight DA cases, 14 criminal misconduct cases, 10 regular enquiries, 11 surprise checks, and three discreet enquiries. In this six-month period, 125 public servants, including eight private or outsourcing employees, were arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The Bureau seized ₹24.57 lakh in trap cases and unearthed assets worth ₹27.66 crore in disproportionate assets cases across various government departments.

During the month of June, the ACB finalized 11 cases and submitted final reports to the government. A total of 129 cases were finalized in the first half of 2025. In May 2025, the ACB registered 19 cases, including 14 trap cases, four criminal misconduct cases, and one surprise check. Twenty-five public servants were arrested during that month, with ₹3.63 lakh seized in trap cases. The Bureau finalized 33 cases in May and 16 in April. Between January and May, a total of 112 cases were concluded.
