Tarnaka Junction reopened after 10 years, causing traffic bottlenecks in trial phase
Hyderabad: Citizens have called for the immediate closure of the recently reopened Tarnaka signal, which they claim is causing significant traffic congestion. The signal, which had been closed for nearly a decade, was reopened on a trial basis on April 18, 2025. However, many commuters are reporting traffic jams lasting 15-30 minutes due to the signal's operation.
Karthik, a local resident, raised the issue on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Immediately close Tarnaka signal… 15-30 minutes of traffic jam because of that signal. There used to be no traffic jam when that signal remained closed. Don’t know why you have opened that signal. @CYBTRAFFIC @HYDTP @hyderabadpolice @hydcitypolice.”

Another user, AdityaWarangal, questioned the decision, commenting, “They closed it due to traffic jams earlier… why reopen it now?”
A frustrated citizen expressed, “It’s a nightmare to have the signal open. It made things much better before. Now, the U-turn to the metro station is causing major problems. I don’t understand why it was reopened.”
SS Sagar also criticized the decision, calling it the "worst decision ever."
Worst decision ever is to open that Tarnaka junction again

The Tarnaka junction, which was previously closed, was reopened for vehicular movement between Osmania University and Lalapet on a trial basis, running from April 18 to May 2, 2025. The Hyderabad Traffic Police announced that this trial phase aims to assess the traffic flow and make improvements.
Traffic Allowed Routes:
1. From Osmania University: Vehicles can proceed straight towards Lalapet and take a right turn towards Habsiguda.
2. From Lalapet: Vehicles can proceed straight towards Osmania University and take a right turn towards Mettuguda.
Traffic Not Allowed Routes:
1. From Mettuguda: Vehicles are prohibited from taking a right turn towards Osmania University. Instead, they should proceed straight towards Huda Complex, take a U-turn at Tarnaka, and then take a left towards Osmania University.
2. From Habsiguda: Vehicles are not allowed to take a right turn towards Lalapet. They should proceed straight towards IRISET, take a U-turn, and then turn left at Tarnaka towards Lalapet.
Authorities have requested citizens to follow these routes and cooperate with traffic police during the trial period.
