Hyderabad: No more U-turns as Tarnaka junction to reopen soon

After nearly a decade of being closed, the Tarnaka main junction in Hyderabad will reopen soon. This decision comes after local residents complained about the inconvenience and chaos caused by the long detour and U-turns. The junction will be reopened by the end of February or the first week of March, following the completion of beautification work. The reopening will allow motorists to travel directly from Osmania University to Lalapet, saving time and fuel. However, it will require additional police personnel to manage the traffic flow at the junction.

Hyderabad: In a major relief to motorists, the Tarnaka main junction will be reopened soon. The junction remained closed for public access for nearly a decade and the vehicular traffic was forced to take a U-turn to reach the other side of the junction.

The local residents had been complaining about the lengthy detour and the chaos at the U-turns. Following frequent representations made by locals, the GHMC deputy mayor and Tarnaka corporator Mothe Srilatha Shobhan Reddy spoke with the GHMC commissioner and Hyderabad police commissioner and finally the authorities have decided to reopen the cross roads for traffic movement.

Earlier, the Tarnaka corporator visited the site and interacted with the locals. She acknowledged their concerns and assured them that the junction will once again open for regular traffic after the completion of beautification work. The junction will be opened by the end of February or in the first week of March, she said.

Currently, motorists have to take U-turns at Railway Degree College and IICT. The traffic police made this arrangement to avoid the travel time at the signals under the flyover while ensuring the smooth traffic movement.

However, following numerous requests from residents of Tarnaka, the officials are preparing to reopen the junction to provide significant convenience to commuters. The crossroads connects the vehicular movement from Osmania University to Lalapet. Once the junction is reopened, not only commuters will be able to save time and fuel but it will also require more than two police personnel to manage it.
