Hyderabad: Former Minister and BRS leader T. Harish Rao was arrested and taken to Gachibowli police station on Thursday morning, December 5, 2024, following his visit to the residence of BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy. The arrest comes after the Banjara Hills police registered a case against Kaushik Reddy and his associates for obstructing the duties of a police officer on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when Kaushik Reddy visited the Banjara Hills police station to file a complaint about phone tapping. According to the police, when the Inspector was leaving the station for emergency duty, a group led by Kaushik Reddy blocked his vehicle by parking another car in front. Despite the Inspector’s request to wait or approach the Admin Sub-Inspector, the group allegedly continued to obstruct the vehicle, abuse, and threaten the officer.

Following the complaint from the Inspector, Banjara Hills police registered a case against Kaushik Reddy and his associates for unlawful assembly, obstructing the duties of a public servant, criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint, public nuisance, and rioting.

In response to his arrest, Harish Rao criticised the actions, posting on X (formerly Twitter), “Is this Indiramma’s kingdom? Emergency administration? When Kaushik Reddy went to the police station to lodge a complaint about phone tapping, another case was filed against him. Early this morning, dozens of policemen arrived at the MLA’s house, attempting an illegal arrest.”

He continued, “If this misdeed is questioned, they misbehave with me and BRS leaders. The illegal arrest is being made and I am being taken to the police station. Arrests for asking questions, cases for raising concerns, and threats for opposing. You continue with the undemocratic rule, while claiming to uphold democracy. @revanth_anumula, we are not afraid of your threats or illegal cases. Telangana society will show you the wisdom. #CongressFailedTelangana.”

Earlier, Harish Rao also condemned the case against Kaushik Reddy, saying, “We strongly condemn the registration of a case against MLA @KaushikReddyBRS, who went to the police station to lodge a complaint about phone tapping. Who would hesitate to register a complaint from a public representative?”

He added, “Where is this justice? What is this democracy? There is no threat to filing illegal cases against @BRSparty leaders who are fighting for the people. We will continue to stand by you. #CongressFailedTelangana.”

BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao also condemned the arrests, calling them undemocratic. He posted, “If you question the government’s mistakes, cases will be filed! Arrests for standing up to promises! Cases for highlighting governance failures!” KTR demanded the immediate release of Harish Rao and other leaders.
