Suman Housing colony residents resort to unconventional protest to highlight civic issue
Hyderabad: Patience of residents living in and around the Suman Housing colony in West Marredpally, Secunderabad has run thin due to lack of resolution of a civic issue.
Frustrated by the issue of drainage system and persistent foul odour due to the drainage water overflowing from a manhole across the road, the disgruntled residents of the colony have resorted to an unconventional protest.
They have put up a banner at the entrance of the colony announcing their grievance in red letters signifying the emergency.
The banner reads, there is a never ending drainage problem from Maisamma temple to Agra sweet house main road. The public is suffering for the last two years. We request the authorities from the concerned department of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to take immediate action and fix the issue immediately.
The banner also carries photos showing how motorists and pedestrians are suffering due to the overflowing of drainage on the road. The drainage water not only causes inconvenience to the road users but has also become a hotbed for mosquito breeding.
Highlighting the civic issue being faced by the residents of the Suman Housing colony, journalist Serish wrote, “There are complaints about civic issues, there are civic concerns on social media. And then there are legends like this. Two years and counting according to the banner in Marredpally.”
