Begumpet’s St. Francis College empowers villages through awareness drives in Sangareddy
Hyderabad: St. Francis College for Women, Begumpet, conducted its eighth village development visit under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) initiative in Sangareddy district, Telangana. The outreach program involved 53 students and five faculty members and focused on raising awareness in the Ippalagadda and Kandi thandas.
As part of the initiative, students conducted sessions on the importance of a balanced diet, mental health, and waste segregation. They performed skits on domestic violence and shared information about government welfare schemes such as Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana and Balika Samriddhi Yojana. A demonstration on the benefits of wheatgrass was also organized.
In a move to support local education, the college donated speakers and microphones to schools in both thandas. The team also planted fruit-bearing saplings in the school compounds, contributing to the long-term development of the area. The visit offered students hands-on experience in community engagement while promoting a sense of social responsibility.
St. Francis College for Women, a Catholic institution founded in 1959 by the Sisters of Charity of St. Bartolomea Capitanio and St. Vincenza Gerosa, is known for its commitment to women's education.
In a related development, the college recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI), Hyderabad Chapter, on June 30, 2025. The agreement aims to provide students pursuing degrees in media, communication, and public relations with industry exposure and practical training.
Prof. T. Uma Joseph, Principal, highlighted the importance of the collaboration, stating, "Our goal is to prepare students for the professional world. This partnership offers valuable exposure in media and public relations."
Dr. K. Yadagiri, General Secretary of PRSI Hyderabad, commended the college for its initiative to bridge academic learning with industry practice. The MoU was signed in the presence of PRSI officials and faculty members from the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism, including Y. Babji, Krishna Baji, Dr. Fathima Raheem, K. Ravi Kumar, P. Clement Babu, and T. Suzan Spurthi. The collaboration will launch student-focused programs beginning with the 2025–2026 academic year.
