Spurious anti-diabetic drugs and abortion kits worth Rs. 5.2 lakh seized in Moosarambagh

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, seized spurious drugs worth ₹5.21 lakh during a raid at a residence in Moosarambagh, Malakpet, Hyderabad. The operation was carried out on June 4 following credible information about illegal drug storage at an unlicensed premises.

The accused, Puvvada Lakshmana, is a repeat offender with multiple pending cases related to the stocking and sale of spurious drugs. According to officials, he had illegally stored a large quantity of pharmaceutical products at his residence.

During the raid, four types of drugs suspected to be spurious were seized. These included anti-diabetic medicines, antihypertensive tablets, and abortion kits. The seized items are:

Samples of the seized drugs have been collected for analysis. Officials confirmed that further investigation is underway, and legal proceedings will follow based on the test results and evidence gathered.

The raid was conducted by DCA officers G. Prasad (Assistant Director, Rangareddy), D. Saritha (Assistant Director, Secunderabad), and Drugs Inspectors G. Anil (Malakpet), B. Govind Singh (Secunderabad), and M. Surendranath (Begumpet).

Spurious drugs pose a serious risk to public health. They can result in failed treatments and long-term health complications, endangering the lives of unsuspecting patients.

DCA Director General Shahnawaz Qasim, IPS, urged the public to report any illegal drug-related activities, including the manufacture and sale of counterfeit or unauthorized medicines. Complaints can be made via the DCA’s toll-free number 1800-599-6969, available from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all working days.
