Software Engineer Gets 20-Year Jail in Rape Case
Cyberabad court delivers verdict
Hyderabad: The XIII Additional District Sessions Judge, Ranga Reddy District at LB Nagar, has sentenced Swagat Kumar Bhoi, a 42-year-old software engineer from Hitech City, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a rape case registered at Gachibowli Police Station. Along with the sentence, he was fined ₹5,100 and directed to pay ₹2,00,000 as compensation to the victim.
Complaint and investigation
According to police, the victim lodged a complaint on November 23, 2017, stating that Bhoi had been in a relationship with her since 2009 and exploited her emotionally and physically on the false promise of marriage. They lived together in Noida, Chennai and Hyderabad, during which she was repeatedly subjected to sexual exploitation. The victim later discovered that the accused was set to marry another woman in Odisha on November 28, 2017. When confronted, Bhoi allegedly abused and threatened her family, claiming political influence.
Based on the complaint, Inspector S. Chandrakanth of Gachibowli PS registered a case (Cr. No. 644/2017) under IPC sections 376(2)(l)(n), 417, 506 and 290, and handed it over to Detective Inspector N. Venkateswarlu for investigation. Bhoi was arrested and produced before the court. After completion of investigation, Inspector M. Gangadhar filed the charge sheet. The court pronounced the conviction, awarding 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with fine and compensation.
