Stegodon fossil unearthed by Singareni now displayed at Birla Science Centre
Hyderabad: The exhibit was inaugurated at the Singareni Pavilion of the Birla Planetarium. Speaking at the event, SCCL chairman and managing director N Balram said the collaboration between SCCL and the G P Birla Archaeological Astronomical and Scientific Research Institute (GPBAASRI) symbolised the convergence of industry, heritage and education.
Balram said the fossilised Stegodon tusk was “a tangible link to a distant past and a reminder of the scale of evolutionary time”. He added that displaying the fossil at the Science Centre would “inspire young students who may one day become paleontologists and geologists”.
SCCL proud of contribution to science learning
Expressing appreciation for the work being done at the B M Birla Science Centre, Balram said the institute was “a dynamic hub of curiosity and learning”. SCCL, he said, was proud to contribute geological samples such as coal and shale along with the Stegodon tusk for public display.
Balram noted that the Science Centre, with its galleries and museums, was the right place to exhibit such artefacts because it had the expertise and audience to showcase them with educational focus.
Partnership in the tradition of India’s science institutions
The SCCL CMD observed that the company was following in the footsteps of national institutions like the Indian Space Research Organisation, the National Remote Sensing Centre, the Survey of India, the Atomic Energy Commission and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India in supporting the Science Centre’s mission.
Balram also said SCCL looked forward to more collaborations with GPBAASRI to strengthen public science education.
