Hyderabad: 478 caught for harassment during Bonalu and Moharram, says SHE Teams

Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s SHE Teams intensified operations during the 2025 Bonalu and Moharram festivals to ensure the safety of women at public gatherings. A total of 478 individuals were caught for misbehaving or harassing women in public spaces. This included 386 adults and 92 minors.

Among those apprehended, 288 were let off with warnings. Four were booked under petty cases, resulting in fines totaling ₹1,050. In five cases, courts issued convictions. One person was sentenced to imprisonment along with a fine, and four others were fined ₹50 each. Eight FIRs were registered at various police stations in the city.

To raise awareness and deter harassment, SHE Teams conducted 124 awareness programs, carried out 1,405 surveillance checks in public areas, and organized 352 campaigns using audio-visual vehicles.

Special deployments were made at key festive locations such as Golconda Bonalu, Balkampet Yellamma Temple, and Secunderabad’s Ujjaini Mahankali Temple. Several individuals were caught red-handed at these sites for misbehaving with women devotees. A total of 14 dedicated SHE Teams were deployed citywide during the festivities.
