Shamshabad-Vizag semi-high-speed rail corridor works gather pace
Shamshabad: The ambitious Shamshabad-Visakhapatnam semi-high-speed rail corridor has picked up the pace with the completion of the preliminary and traffic (PET) survey. The railway authorities have also completed the alignment for the routes.
The Union government approved the construction of two new superfast railway lines connecting Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and instructed the railway authorities to conduct the necessary surveys.
Following the completion of the high-speed rail corridor work, passengers will experience a significant decrease in their travel time. The semi-high-speed train will run at a speed of 220 kilometres per hour, which may allow commuters to return to their destinations on the same day.
Senior BJP leader and former MP GVL Narasimha Rao tweeted that “this new rail line will be a gamechanger for the commuters as it will cut down travel time between the cities covering a distance of 900-kilometre (Shamshabad International Airport to Visakhapatnam) to a mere 4.5 hours,”
The high-speed rail corridor is expected to connect Suryapet and Vijayawada while plans are to include another corridor connecting Visakhapatnam to Kurnool. This additional corridor will link several towns of Telangana such as Narkatpalli, Nakirekal, and Kodada which are not teven remotely connected to the railway network.
