Ajay Kumar Maryala, a local resident and parent, highlighted the danger of the Shaikpet-Manikonda road. Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, he said, “This is the second fatal accident on this stretch, and both incidents should serve as a wake-up call. I travel daily to Manikonda from Shaikpet on my two-wheeler, and there are three key issues that need urgent attention.”

Ajay Kumar Maryala, a local resident and parent, highlighted the dangers of the Shaikpet-Manikonda Road. Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, he said, “Yesterday, the second fatal accident was reported on this stretch, and the incident should serve as a wake-up call. I travel daily to Manikonda from Shaikpet on my two-wheeler, and there are three key issues that need urgent attention.”

He pointed out several road safety hazards that need to be addressed. One major concern is the presence of potholes around manholes and junctions, particularly on the road connecting Shaikpet to Puppalguda. According to him, the concrete road, which was laid nearly 10 years ago, still features large square cement blocks as lids on sewerage manholes. While manholes in the Shaikpet area were replaced after complaints, the same issue remains unresolved in Manikonda, despite repeated requests to authorities.

“There are round manholes starting from Friends Colony that are damaged and need replacing,” he said. “These manholes are located in the middle of the road or on passageways. Two-wheelers often swerve to avoid them, leading to accidents and skidding.”

In addition, water leakages from the century-old Gandipet Raw Water conduit, which runs along the road, have caused further safety concerns. Water leaks from the conduit are forcing two-wheeler commuters to swerve across lanes, increasing the risk of accidents. A fatal accident occurred recently in July 2025, where a software engineer lost her life after being hit by a water tanker while riding her two-wheeler near Sunder Garden.

Ajay also raised concerns about a persistent water leakage near the Manikonda Quarters bus stop, which continues to cause inconvenience to commuters. “The water leaks from the base of the conduit and flows across the road, making it hazardous for two-wheelers,” he explained. “I have reported this issue to HMWSSB authorities multiple times, but it has yet to be fully addressed.”

In addition to road hazards, Ajay Kumar Maryala also drew attention to violations of traffic rules by parents dropping their children off at nearby schools, including DSE Manikonda, Mount Litera Zee School, and Pavithra International School. He noted that many parents drive on the wrong side of the road, creating traffic jams at critical junctions like South India Bank and near Andhra Bank.

“I volunteer at the Manikonda Andhra Bank junction, assisting the traffic home guard. I’ve seen how school drop-offs disrupt traffic and create dangerous situations,” Ajay said.

He has urged the Manikonda Municipal Authorities and Cyberabad Traffic Department to take immediate action to improve road safety measures on this stretch of road, which is a two-way route. Residents are hopeful that their concerns will be addressed promptly to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of commuters in the area.
