Five booked for resorting to violence during Secunderabad temple protest
Hyderabad: A day after the mob fury at Muthyalamma temple in which several police officials were injured, the Hyderabad police have booked five cases against the protesters who took to violence during the demonstration in Secunderabad.
These cases have been registered at Gopalapuram police station and Monda Market police station. The police department is analyzing the CCTV footage and videos of the mob to identify the persons who had resorted to violence and attacked the police personnel. DCP (North) Rashmi Perumal said the protest march was held without obtaining permission.
Following a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) call for protest on Saturday against the temple idol desecration, several people had gathered outside the temple holding saffron flags and demanding justice.
As the Hindu group allegedly attempted to move towards a mosque located on the road, the police contingent deployed at the protest site tried to stop them from marching further which resulted in a confrontation which soon turned violent as the protesters went berserk and started throwing footwear at the police. Nearly 15 policemen suffered injuries in the stone pelting incident.
The police used mild force to disperse the aggressive mob of protesters and control the situation from getting out of hand. The enraged mob also damaged the TGSRTC buses and tried to ransack the Metropolis Hotel where alleged perpetrator Salman Salim Thakur was residing.
