Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) is currently carrying out a major redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station, with an estimated cost of Rs 720 crore. The project involves the demolition of the existing station building on the north side to make way for a new structure. The authorities are taking steps to ensure passenger safety and minimize any inconvenience caused by the construction work.

In an effort to streamline passenger movement, several measures have been implemented. A new entry has been opened at Gate No. 2, located beside the Ganesh Temple, which provides access to Platform No. 1. This new entry point also includes a general booking counter, an enquiry booth, and a waiting hall with a capacity to hold 750 passengers, with additional seating available for 500 more.

With Gate No. 4 now closed, Gate Nos. 3 and 3B, located opposite Swathi Hotel, have been made available for passengers to use. Additionally, a new entry at Gate No. 8, on the Bhoiguda side, has been opened, leading passengers directly to Platform No. 10, which also offers general booking facilities.

To help guide passengers, clear signage and direction boards have been installed across the station at entrances, circulating areas, platforms, and foot overbridges, ensuring smooth flow of foot traffic. Commercial Inspectors have been stationed at the station, and monitoring of the site is being conducted round-the-clock to address any issues promptly and ensure safety.

During peak hours, Commercial Officers will be overseeing crowd management, particularly for special Kumbh Mela trains. Sufficient Ticket Checking staff will be available at all times to assist with crowd control and ensure smooth boarding procedures. To further ease passenger flow, platforms are being assigned in advance, helping passengers to disperse rather than crowding on Platforms 1 and 10.

Regular announcements are being made to update passengers about platform assignments, train delays, and the location of coaches designated for Divyangjan passengers. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has increased its presence across entry/exit gates, platforms, concourses, and foot overbridges, ensuring efficient passenger management.

An enhanced CCTV surveillance network is in place, allowing real-time monitoring to address any security concerns promptly. RPF Shakti Teams have also been deployed to ensure the safety of female passengers. In addition, fire safety inspections are being conducted regularly, and fire safety protocols are being strictly followed.

SCR urges passengers to cooperate with station authorities during this large-scale redevelopment project. Passengers are encouraged to follow all signage and guidelines. For any assistance, the RPF Helpline at 139 is available for immediate support.
