Secunderabad station launches ticket scanners on staff uniforms
HYDERABAD: South Central Railway has introduced a new system at Secunderabad railway station that allows passengers to buy unreserved tickets by scanning QR codes printed on the uniforms of select staff members.
Officials said the facility is aimed at easing passenger rush during the festive season. Instead of waiting in queues at counters, passengers can use the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile app to scan the codes on staff jackets and purchase tickets.
The UTS app, launched earlier for unreserved tickets, has seen a strong response with lakhs of passengers using it daily. The new QR-based mobile scanner service has now been rolled out at Secunderabad, Kacheguda, Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal, Tirupati and Nanded stations.
Passengers can buy tickets within a 5-metre radius of the station premises or railway tracks. The app is available in multiple languages. Those using the R-Wallet option to pay also get a 3% bonus on recharge, officials added.
