School bus emits smoke near AoC centre in Secunderabad, 25 students safe

HYDERABAD: A school bus carrying 25 students emitted smoke from its engine near the Army Ordnance Corps (AoC) centre in Secunderabad Cantonment on Thursday morning, briefly causing panic among commuters and passersby.

Army personnel helped douse engine smoke

The incident occurred around 8.00 a.m. when the bus was heading towards Mahendra Hills. The driver noticed thick smoke coming from the engine and immediately stopped the vehicle, opening the doors to ensure the students’ safety.

Army personnel on duty at the AoC centre promptly used fire extinguishers to control the smoke. Several motorists passing through the area also stopped to help the children, police said.

All students safe, traffic disrupted briefly

Tirumalagiri police station inspector G Nagaraju said all the students were safe. “All students are unhurt and shifted to another school bus. Nobody, either the driver or the students, is hurt in the mishap.

Traffic on the stretch was halted for a few minutes before normal flow resumed, police added.
