Secunderabad: Greensainikpuri, the federation of Northeastern Colonies of Secunderabad, has launched a campaign urging officials and the government to improve connectivity in the Northeast region of Secunderabad. Their primary focus is the widening of the RK Puram Railway Overbridge (ROB) and the improvement of the RK Puram-Trimulgherry road, which has long been a cause for concern among commuters.

In a post on 'X' (formerly Twitter), Greensainikpuri highlighted the issues at the RK Puram junction and ROB, urging the Transportation Engineering Department of SRDP (Strategic Road Development Plan) to review five pressing problems affecting commuters. The organisation highlighted that resolving these issues requires political will and prioritisation.

They tagged @TelanganaCMO and @TelanganaCS in their appeal, stating, "Day 2, RK Puram junction/ROB. We need the Transportation Engineering of SRDP to review this issue, majorly focusing on 5 pressing problems affecting commuters as shown in RED on the map. But for them to take up this subject, we need political will and priority."

The five key demands highlighted by Greensainikpuri include:

1. Widening All Saints Road from RK Puram to Trimulgherry, which is very narrow. They also call for remodeling the junctions with Gough Road, Laswari Road, Patna Road, Albane Road, and Rajiv Rahadari to improve safety. Additionally, they propose providing free left turns at all junctions near Trimulgherry.
2. Widening the ROB itself, which is described as very narrow, and re-laying its worn-out surface.
3. Reopening the U-turn on the westbound service road under the ROB, which was closed after the Army erected a wall.
4. Removing illegal blue sheets on the ROB railing, which are obstructing the view.
5. Shifting the RTC Bus Stop to avoid traffic back-up on the ROB caused by buses stopping there.

In a follow-up post, Greensainikpuri noted, “Day-1, we have started this campaign to reach out to officials and the present government to help our Northeast region with better connectivity. Right now, we are struggling with the narrow RK Puram ROB.”

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) responded promptly, acknowledging the concern and directing the matter to the relevant authorities: @EE_Malkajgiri, @ghmcae139, @DC_Malkajgiri, and @ZC_Secunderabad. Greensainikpuri thanked GHMC for the prompt reply but insisted that this issue requires a broader policy approach and not just a road repair. They reiterated the need for a comprehensive SRDP plan for the Northeast region, stating, "Till date, not a single project has been taken up under SRDP for our Northeast region."

Several residents and concerned citizens also expressed their opinion in on the issue. MDW (@molfe2000) suggested reclaiming all encroachments and improving traffic management with better lane markings and separate lanes for two-wheelers. Meena Ravindran (@Meena44240998) described the road as "unsafe," urging immediate action. Pankaj Sethi added that the road is "very narrow" and pointed out several bottlenecks, including the illegal blue sheets and the blocked service road.

Greensainikpuri responded, agreeing that this is not just about road repairs, highlighting that the RK Puram junction is a complex issue that requires a holistic redesign to eliminate all traffic bottlenecks.

Vijay (@vijaysdabade) highlighted the long-pending demand for a new parallel flyover beside the existing narrow RK Puram Flyover, citing daily traffic congestion and the adverse impact on citizens. Manognya Reddy (@manreddy) noted that the RK Puram flyover has become increasingly dangerous, especially with two-wheelers using the pavement to navigate through heavy traffic, which has increased the risk of accidents.

Vasu Kumar (@vasuasi) called for better connectivity to North Hyderabad, pointing out the exponential growth in the region with little development in infrastructure. He also asked for a flyover at Trimulgherry and metro connectivity from Parade Ground to Alwal or from Tarnaka to Kushaiguda and beyond, stressing that the situation has worsened over the years.
