A new rock art site has been identified in Yadgarpalli village of Keesara mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri district. The discovery was made by researchers from the Kotha Telanganacharitrabrundam team. With this, Telangana now records 86 documented rock art sites, of which 46 were identified by this history group.

The site is located inside a cave formed by granite boulders on the outskirts of Yadgarpalli. Previously, the same team had reported new rock art findings in Kashipet, Pyararam, Lingannapet, and Muchintala.

Paintings in Red and White Hues

The rock art at Yadgarpalli consists mainly of stick-figure drawings and scenes painted in red and white colors. A large canvas depicts a battle scene with warriors carrying bows, arrows, and swords. Both victorious and defeated fighters are shown, along with animals such as elephants, tigers, and horses.

Other images include humans holding hands, group dances with weapons, an ox-like animal, handprints, and a rider on a horse-like figure. A prominent warrior on horseback is painted in white among red figures. Some white paintings have faded, while red ones appear drawn over them. The white depictions also show hunted animals and four individuals carrying their catch.

Researchers noted that the use of red and white pigments, the themes of battle and hunting, and the presence of microlithic and polished stone tools in the area suggest human habitation from the Mesolithic period through the historical era.

Kotha Telanganacharitrabrundam continues its documentation of prehistoric art across Telangana.

The discovery was made by researchers Ahobilam Karunakar and Md. Naseeruddin from the Kotha Telanganacharitrabrundam team.
