Hyderabad: The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police booked a Kuwait-based NRI and four others in connection with a human trafficking case. A total of five persons have been accused of their involvement in human trafficking.

The matter came to light during an immigration check at the Hyderabad airport when the officials found that the Indian Passport of Khadeerun Shaik, a resident of Kadapa, was allegedly tampered. She was an ECR (Emigration Check Required) passport holder, which made her go through additional scrutiny at the airport.

She was detained and questioned by the officials. During the investigation, Shaik revealed that five agents spread across Kadapa and Vijayawada districts, helped her with the documentation and arranged a forged visa for her to Kuwait.

Following a complaint from the immigration officials, the RGIA police registered a criminal case against the five persons who were allegedly involved in a human trafficking operation and sending people to Middle East countries without valid documents.

A few weeks ago, Hyderabad Task Force sleuths busted an international human trafficking-cum-prostitution racket. During the operation, the police arrested 14 persons, including seven Bangladesh nationals and a minor. The task force also rescued two victims, both minor girls aged below 15 years.

Acting on a tip-off, the south zone task force sleuths conducted raids at two different places at Khairatabad and Chaderghat. The police said the local agents along with their associates were involved in trafficking Bangladeshi women for prostitution in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and other cities. The gang would bring women from financially weak backgrounds in Bangladesh via West Bengal to Hyderabad.
