Hyderabad: Congress leader and former Munugode MLA Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy has openly criticized Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s recent claim that he would serve as Chief Minister for the next ten years, calling it a move that goes against the Congress party’s democratic principles.

Posting on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the leader wrote, “Revanth Reddy's self-declaration that he will be the Chief Minister for the next ten years goes against the principles of the Congress party. In a national party like Congress, the Chief Minister is chosen democratically, based on the directions of the High Command. True Congress leaders and dedicated party workers will not tolerate any attempts to turn the Telangana Congress into a personal empire.”

The post, shared along with a newspaper clipping, quickly gained traction on social media and sparked a wider debate within political circles.

This statement comes a day after CM Revanth Reddy made a strong appeal to the Andhra Pradesh government not to obstruct key Telangana irrigation projects. On July 18, speaking at a public event in Kollapur, Nagarkurnool district, the Chief Minister urged Andhra Pradesh to cooperate on projects including the Palamuru–Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Dindi, Kalwakurthy, Bhima, Nettempadu, and Koilsagar.

“If our appeals are not heard, we will fight and accomplish our goals. I will take full responsibility and leadership of this struggle,” Reddy said. He also called on Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu to halt the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project, which diverts 3 TMC of water daily, saying that true regional cooperation must reflect in actions.

Before addressing the public, CM Reddy visited the Madana Gopala Swamy temple and laid the foundation stone for the Young India Residential School in Kollapur and Jatprole.

Speaking at the “Prajapalana – Pragathi Baata” meeting, Revanth Reddy outlined several government initiatives. He reiterated the importance of ongoing irrigation projects and announced that land acquisition for these projects would be completed by December 9, with full compensation for affected families. The government aims to complete the projects within two years.

He also announced a plan to bring water from Tummidihatti to Vikarabad, Tandur, and Chevella. On employment, the Chief Minister stated that the government had already filled 60,000 jobs in its first year. An additional 40,000 jobs are expected to be filled in the next 18 months, bringing the total to 1 lakh (100,000). He also noted that Telangana was the first state to complete categorization of SC sub-castes as per Supreme Court directives.

At the event, Revanth Reddy distributed cheques worth ₹344 crore under the interest-free loans scheme to women’s self-help groups. He also handed over cheques related to bank linkages, loan insurance, accident insurance, and new ration cards under the food security scheme. Ministers Damodar Raja Narasimha, Jupally Krishna Rao, Vakati Sridhar, MP Mallu Ravi, MLCs, MLAs, and other local leaders attended the event.
