Residents raise concerns over frequent trash dumping in SR Nagar, Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Residents of SR Nagar, Hyderabad, have raised concerns over persistent trash dumping on streets, particularly from SR Nagar Community Hall Junction to Srinivasa Colony East. Despite the intervention of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the problem remains unresolved, with waste often left uncollected for days. Even when GHMC cleans the area, residents report that individuals without civic sense continue to dump waste, contributing to the ongoing issue.

Krishna Chaitanya, a software engineer and local resident, shared his frustration with Hyderabad Mail. “This has become a daily scene between SR Nagar Community Hall Junction and Srinivasa Colony East. Trash is regularly dumped in multiple spots, even near the SR Nagar Police Station,” he said.

Chaitanya expressed concern over the lack of accountability, stating, “Culprits aren’t afraid of the police or the fine boards. There is no regular cleaning, and no action is taken by the GHMC to stop this.” He also noted that there are many similar dumping sites across the city, with no visible enforcement of existing rules.

Chaitanya took to social media, tagging GHMC officials, including Commissioner @CommissionrGHMC, GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijaya Lakshmi, and others, urging them to take action. “What’s the point of placing fine boards if they don’t deter people from dumping trash? This issue is widespread across Hyderabad, and no concrete action has been taken,” he said.

In response, the GHMC’s official handle acknowledged the complaint, stating, “The area sanitation team has been informed to inspect the site and take necessary action.” However, residents argue that the problem persists despite these responses.

Local residents are calling for more trash bins to be placed in the area to prevent waste from spreading further. They are also urging the GHMC to enforce stricter fines and take stronger action against those who dump waste.

This issue is part of a broader concern regarding waste management in Hyderabad. Earlier, GHMC announced plans to launch a mobile app to address littering. The app would allow officials to issue e-challans to violators and track the status of fines online. Currently, fines are manually issued, but the new system is expected to improve enforcement and efficiency.
