Residents of Tellapur raise concerns over illegal water extraction and traffic issues
Hyderabad: Residents of Tellapur, home to over 10,000 people, are voicing concerns about illegal water extraction in their area and the associated risks. They are also highlighting problems with water tankers driving on the wrong side of the road and threatening residents. The community is calling on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Cyberabad Police to address the situation promptly.
Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, the President of the Tellapur Neighborhood Association (TeNA) said, “Last year, we raised concerns with the Sangareddy District Collector and the Serilingampally MRO about illegal water extraction. Unfortunately, no significant action was taken. This year, we continue to see hundreds of water tankers on the already damaged Tellapur, Gopanpally roads, especially at night, making commuting difficult.”

He further stated, “In addition to the traffic issues, many water tankers are driving in the wrong direction. When residents try to stop them, they are often threatened. This is not just a traffic violation but a law and order issue. We sincerely request the authorities and local leaders to address this matter immediately to protect both public safety and natural resources.”
The Tellapur Neighborhood Association (@TellapurN) also raised the issue on social media, posting, “@revanth_anumula @cyberabadpolice @CollectorRRD @Collector_SRD Illegal water extraction, wrong-side driving by tankers, and threats in Tellapur & Gopanpally! Reported many times, yet no action. Is there any law here? #Negligence #PublicSafety.”
Another resident, R.V.R. Murthy, said, “Traffic police and the law and order department need to address the illegal movements of the tankers and the depletion of groundwater resources for future use.”
Aashish Kumar Jha added, “The situation in and around Tellapur is terrible. The construction by MY HOME has damaged the roads. The tanker mafia is extracting water, and there is no municipal service, like road cleaning or garbage collection. The internal roads in Mayfair Lane are damaged, there’s no sewage, yet we are paying taxes.”
Mohan, a local resident, highlighted that the heavy trucks are damaging newly constructed Nala bridges, urging authorities to take action quickly.
