HYDERABAD: Telangana Roads and Buildings and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said the tender process for the northern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) would begin within two months. Speaking to the media in Chityala on Saturday, he said the tenders would be completed by December and works would commence in January.

Minister blames previous government for delays

The minister criticised the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government for ignoring the project despite the Centre’s approval in 2017–18. He said when he took charge, only 6% of land acquisition had been completed, but after becoming minister, he convinced farmers and completed over 98% by offering market rates.

Venkat Reddy said the RRR, initially planned as a four-lane road, had been upgraded to six lanes keeping in view the projected traffic growth till 2035. The 161.5-km northern stretch runs from Sangareddy to Choutuppal via Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Jagdevpur, Bhuvanagiri and Bhongir. He said land acquisition would cost ₹6,000 crore, shared equally by the Centre and the State, with the State’s ₹3,000-crore share raised through a HUDCO loan.

He assured that there would be no changes to the approved alignment and appealed to the Centre for cooperation. On the southern section, he urged farmers not to panic, saying the government would move forward only with their consent. “Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and I will never allow injustice to farmers. I am a farmer’s son — how can I tolerate that?” he said.

Venkat Reddy accused the BRS government of “selling the Outer Ring Road (ORR), worth ₹1.5 lakh crore, for just ₹7,000 crore” and misleading farmers with false propaganda. He said the RRR project, including construction, would cost ₹45,000 crore. “As a son of Nalgonda, I will not stay silent if injustice is done to this region,” he said.
