Venkatadri Nagar residents in panic as red liquid floods roads, authorities investigate
Hyderabad: A red-coloured liquid suddenly gushed out from a manhole and flooded the streets of Venkatadri Nagar, located in Subhashnagar Division near the Jeedimetla Industrial Estate, on Monday evening, November 25, 2024.
Residents were initially concerned, as the liquid closely resembled blood. The strong odour that accompanied the spill made it difficult to breathe, increasing the sense of panic. However, after a while, the situation was clarified, and the community relaxed upon learning that the liquid was not blood.
Several warehouse managers in the area claimed that the red liquid was likely the result of chemicals being dumped directly into the drainage system. Despite numerous complaints lodged with municipal authorities, no action had been taken to address the issue, leaving residents concerned about potential environmental and health risks.
An official from the Telangana Pollution Control Board (PCB), Rajender, Medchal, spoke to Hyderabad Mail about the incident. He explained, "Unknown painted drums containing red paint had overflowed from a manhole yesterday, which caused the red liquid to spill onto the roads. We are currently investigating the source and working to identify those responsible for the incident. We have yet to determine whether it involves chemicals or any other substance."
The authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter, and efforts are being made to identify the exact source of the red liquid. Meanwhile, residents of Venkatadri Nagar are hoping for swift action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
