According to police, Vanarasi Jangaiah, a native of Venkannaguda, was working as a driver in Hyderabad. He had two wives. About 15 years ago, while still married to his first wife, he married another woman named Rajitha. The couple had two children.

Three years ago, Rajitha separated from Jangaiah and started living on her own, while he continued to live with his first wife. Recently, Jangaiah traced Rajitha’s whereabouts and brought her back to Venkannaguda on Monday.

Dispute before village elders

On Tuesday morning, both were called before village elders to discuss their issues. During the meeting, Jangaiah reportedly asked Rajitha to live with him again, but she refused.

Later, in a fit of rage and under the influence of alcohol, he strangled her with a scarf and, suspecting she was still alive, struck her chest with a cement block. He then took photographs of the body and sent them to his first wife, saying he had killed Rajitha.

Accused surrenders to police

After the incident, Jangaiah informed village sarpanch Narsimhulu and surrendered at the local police station. Police reached the spot, conducted an inspection and shifted the body to the Chevella government hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
