Raidurgam police arrest 4 for car rental fraud, recover 21 cars worth Rs. 2.5 crores
Hyderabad: Raidurgam Police on December 2, 2024, arrested four individuals involved in a car rental scam that led to the cheating of car owners who had rented out their vehicles. The police recovered a total of 21 vehicles worth Rs. 2.5 crores.
The accused were identified as Jupudi Usha, Thudumula Mallesh, Sagar Patil, and Anil Jamane.
According to the police, Jupudi Usha and Thudumula Mallesh deceived 21 innocent car owners by promising to rent their vehicles. However, they pledged the cars to Sagar Patil and Anil Jamane, who were fully aware of the fraudulent intentions of the other two accused. Sagar and Anil then lent these cars to various customers in the Bidar and Bhalki districts of Karnataka, providing them with Xerox copies of the RCs (Registration Certificates) of the vehicles.
When the car owners approached Usha to return their vehicles, they received no response. This led to the filing of a complaint with the police, which resulted in the registration of a case under sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
During the investigation, the police successfully recovered the vehicles from the possession of Mahesh, Sagar, and Anil, as well as from other individuals who had rented the cars.
