Rachakonda police solve missing woman case in Meerpet; Husband admits to brutal murder
Hyderabad: Acting on technical evidence and specific information, the Meerpet Police, part of the Rachakonda Commissionerate, have solved the case of a missing woman after her husband confessed to murdering her.
On January 18, 2025, Kuppala Subbamma, the mother of 35-year-old Putta Venkata Madhavi, who had been missing since January 16, filed a complaint. Subbamma reported that her daughter had an argument with her husband, Putta Guru Murthy, and left their home in Jillelaguda village without informing anyone. Despite searching the area and asking relatives, Madhavi could not be found.
As part of the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage from the coupleโs home. The footage showed Madhavi entering the house with her husband on January 15, but there was no footage of her leaving. This raised suspicions that something was wrong.
On January 28, 2025, Guru Murthy was brought in for questioning. He eventually confessed to killing his wife. According to his statement, on January 14, 2025, during the morning hours, he went to fulfill his duties at DRDL, Kanchan Bagh, then returned home in the afternoon, freshened up, and took his wife, Madhavi, and their two children to celebrate the Sankranti festival at his elder sister Sujatha's house in Badangpet. That day, they left the children at his sister's house and returned to their home in New Venkateshwara Colony, Jillelaguda, for the night.
The next day, January 15, 2025, they visited his sister's house in Badangpet again. They left their children at his sister's place once more and returned home around 10:30 p.m. Both of them slept at their home that night.
Modus Operandi:
On 16th January 2025, at around 8:00 a.m., Guru Murthy woke up from sleep and started an argument with his wife. He got angry and, with the intent to kill her, slapped her hard, due to which she pressed against the wall and collapsed to the floor; immediately, he strangled her until she lost consciousness; later, he realized she was no longer alive and confirmed her death and decided to cover up the murder.
He set on to dispose of her body without knowing any trace and planned to mislead her parents and relatives into believing that she had left the house. Later, he carried his wife's body to the bathroom and then brought a knife from the kitchen and first cut near both shoulders, severed both legs at the waist, followed by cutting his wife's arms and legs into smaller parts, which he placed in a bucket. He then heated water using a water heater, boiled the parts, and later burnt them on the single-burner gas stove. After being burnt, he crushed the bones with a stone roller into powder.
The bone powder and small pieces of flesh were disposed of in the toilet, which was flushed with water several times. Any remaining small bones were kept in the household trash bin, intending to be disposed of later.
He kept the doors and kitchen windows open to minimize the foul smell while burning. It took him approximately 10:00 a.m. to around 6:00 p.m. to cut into pieces and dispose of the body. Afterward, he cleaned the bathroom using detergent and phenyl to remove any traces of evidence. He murdered his wife inhumanly.
Based on the confession of the accused, Putta Guru Murthi, on January 28, 2025, the section of law was altered from Woman Missing to U/sec. 103(1), 238, and 85 BNS, and his arrest was effected.
The seized property includes a stove, knife, roller, roller stone, bucket, water heater, deceased clothing, an accused black short, phenyl bottle, room freshener, surf packet, acid bottle, door mat, scrap bucket, motorcycle, and two mobile phones.
The above arrest was made by B. Koteshwara Rao, Additional DCP, LB Nagar Zone, and P. Kasi Reddy, ACP, Vanasthalipuram Division, under the direct supervision of G. Sudheer Babu, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, and under the guidance of Ch. Praveen Kumar, IPS, DCP LB Nagar Zone.
K. Nagaraju, Inspector of Police, Y. Gowru Naidu, Di, and team K. Sudhakar SI, M. Rajashekhar Si, and the Crime team of PS Meerpet did good work. The Commissioner of Police appreciated them, and they may be awarded suitable awards.
