Rachakonda Police impose ban on public consumption of liquor from Jan 11 to Feb 10
Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police issued a notification on January 8, 2025, prohibiting the consumption of liquor in public places within the Commissionerate's limits. The order, issued by Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu, will be effective from 6:00 a.m. on January 11, 2025, to 6:00 a.m. on February 10, 2025.
The move comes after reports of widespread public drinking in several areas, leading to disturbances and safety concerns, particularly for women and children. According to the police, people consuming alcohol in public places have been engaging in unruly and indecent behavior, creating a sense of fear and discomfort among law-abiding citizens.
The order highlights that such behavior has led to threats to public safety, obstructed road users, and disturbed public tranquility. Authorities say this ban is essential to prevent potential harm and ensure the safety and security of women and children.
The notification, issued under Section 22 (1) (d) of the Hyderabad City Police Act, mandates strict action against violators. Those found breaching the order will be liable for punishment under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 76 of the Hyderabad City Police Act.
In a separate development, the Hyderabad City Police have announced additional restrictions in anticipation of the Sankranti Festival. On January 9, 2025, Police Commissioner C.V. Anand issued a directive to regulate activities during the festival, which will run from January 13 to 15, 2025.
Under the order, kite flying will be prohibited on all major thoroughfares to prevent accidents and ensure public safety. Additionally, the use of loudspeakers or DJs in public spaces will require prior police permission. The use of sound systems must adhere to noise pollution standards set by the Government of Telangana.
Both directives aim to maintain public safety and order during these festive periods.
