PV Sindhu enters China Masters quarters, faces An Se Young
SHENZHEN: Indian shuttler PV Sindhu stormed into the women’s singles quarterfinals of the China Masters World Tour Super 750 tournament on Thursday, moving closer to her first title of the year.
Sindhu, ranked world No. 14, defeated Thailand’s world No. 6 Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-15, 21-15 in the pre-quarterfinals. The match lasted 41 minutes. While she dominated the first game, the second saw several tied scores before Sindhu pulled away at 13-13 with five straight points. She eventually closed out the game and the match in straight sets.
With this win, Sindhu improved her head-to-head record against Chochuwong to 7-5.
Sindhu to face world No. 1 An Se Young
In Friday’s quarterfinals, Sindhu will meet top seed An Se Young of South Korea. Sindhu has lost all seven of their previous encounters, managing to win only one game across those matches.
Satwik-Chirag pair also advances
In men’s doubles, India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also progressed to the quarterfinals. They defeated Chinese Taipei’s Choi Hsieh Chiu and Wang Chi Lin 21-13, 21-12 in the pre-quarterfinals.
The Indian duo will face China’s Ren Xiang Yu and Ji Hao Nan in the last eight.
