Public concern over missing letters on Vivekananda Park board in Gajularamaram
Hyderabad: Residents of Mithila Nagar, Ward No. 125, Gajularamaram Circle – 26, have raised concerns about a name board at a park dedicated to Swami Vivekananda, which is missing a few letters from his name. Social activist Sai Teja highlighted the issue on social media, urging the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Nizampet Municipality to address the matter.
Sai Teja shared his concerns on X (formerly Twitter), tagging relevant authorities such as GHMC, Telangana Chief Minister's Office, and others in his post. "The name of the famous personality is missing. Please check," he wrote.
Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Teja expressed his frustration, stating, "It’s disheartening that no one has responded to the issue despite it being raised publicly. The park is named after Swami Vivekananda, but the board doesn’t display his full name properly, with many letters missing."
Teja further questioned the message being conveyed to society, given the significance of Swami Vivekananda. "What does it say about us if we can't even ensure that the name of such an influential figure is displayed correctly?" he said. He also emphasized that while there may be other priorities for the authorities, the lack of response after the issue was raised is troubling.
"Even if we didn’t use famous personalities' names, there should be respect shown when we do," Teja added, requesting action from the GHMC, Nizampet Municipality, and the Telangana government.
Swami Vivekananda, born Narendranath Datta on January 12, 1863, was a prominent Indian monk and philosopher. He played a key role in introducing Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and is widely regarded as one of the greatest figures in modern Indian history. His speeches, particularly his famous address at the 1893 Parliament of Religions in Chicago, earned him international recognition and helped spread Hindu philosophy globally.
His birthday, January 12, is celebrated as National Youth Day in India.
