CBI arrests NHAI project director in Telangana bribe case
Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested the Project Director of PIU, National Highways Authority of India, Warangal, along with a private person, while accepting a bribe of Rs.60,000 on Tuesday. The arrest followed a complaint alleging that the accused demanded Rs.1,00,000 to ensure no hindrance to the operation of a restaurant near Gudur Toll Plaza on the Hyderabad–Warangal highway at Bibinagar. The demand was conveyed through the private individual.
Accused produced in court, searches conducted
After negotiation, the Project Director agreed to accept RS.60,000, assuring the complainant that no issues would arise during his five-year tenure. CBI laid a trap and caught both accused red-handed while taking the bribe. They were arrested and are being produced before court. Searches were conducted at three locations in Hyderabad, Warangal and Sadashivpet, where incriminating documents were seized. The case remains under investigation.
