GHMC issues guidelines after postmen face access issues in Hyderabad gated communities
Hyderabad: Postmen and delivery staff in the GHMC area have been facing difficulties in delivering letters, including passports, driving licenses, Aadhaar cards, as well as domestic and international parcels from e-commerce, institutions, and retail channels. The challenges are particularly pronounced in Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), gated communities, high-rise apartments, and multi-storied buildings, leading to public grievances.
Delivery personnel often encounter issues such as denial of access by security staff, restrictions on using passenger lifts, and lack of designated parking spaces for delivery vehicles, causing delays.
In response, the Postmaster General of the Hyderabad Headquarters Region has raised these concerns with GHMC authorities. The GHMC Commissioner has instructed Zonal and Deputy Commissioners to ensure the following:
- RWAs must allow unrestricted access to postmen for doorstep delivery.
- Passenger lifts must be accessible to delivery staff without discrimination.
- Safe and designated parking spaces must be provided for delivery vehicles.
- RWAs must install and maintain approved letterboxes as required by the Post Office Act, 2023.
Residents and RWAs in the GHMC area are reminded that postmen and delivery staff are trained to deliver letters and parcels door-to-door and to update delivery confirmation with GPS coordinates via mobile phones. Recipients are encouraged to provide written authorization to postmen to deliver parcels to authorized representatives if they are unavailable.
For any delivery issues, residents should verify their correct delivery pincode through the "Know Your Pincode" service (https://dac.indiapost.gov.in/mypincode) and contact the concerned Postmaster. They can also use the India Post online grievance portal (https://crm.indiapost.gov.in/customer/home), toll-free helpline (18002666868), or official India Post social media accounts (username: Indiapostoffice and telanganapostalcircle). All stakeholders are urged to cooperate fully and ensure smooth access for delivery personnel to complete doorstep deliveries.
