Police seize 200 kg of spoiled chicken from Prakash Nagar godown in Begumpet
Begumpet: In a recent operation, the North Zone Task Force police, alongside officials from the GHMC's food safety department, conducted surprise raids at a chicken godown in Prakash Nagar, Begumpet, on Friday, October 18, 2024. During the raid, officials discovered that the owner, identified as Balayya, was selling rotten chicken and seized 200 kg of spoiled poultry from the premises.
According to the reports, the rotten chicken was being supplied to nearby wine shops. Authorities noted that the godown was operating without any necessary permissions or a food license.
Upon entering the godown, officials were met with a disturbing sight of rotten chickens littered throughout the facility.
Upon questioning the owner, Balayya revealed that he had been selling the spoiled chicken at a lower price to regular customers and wholesale chicken shops. While the cheapest chicken in the area is typically priced at Rs 50 per kg, it was found that local hotels near the wine shops were purchasing this rotten chicken and serving it to unsuspecting customers.
Officials warned that the consumption of such spoiled meat has led to illness among locals, raising serious public health concerns. Residents are now calling for strict punishment for those involved in selling rotten chicken, highlighting that such practices endanger the community's well-being.
